The problem in treating this disease is most people treat it as cosmetic problem and not a medical disorder and don't bother seeking treatment.

The people who are most likely to encounter Toenail fungus are people who wear tight-fitting shoes are more likely to develop this problem, especially if they don’t take care of their foot hygiene. Wearing too much nail polish could also be a cause of toenail fungus because it doesn’t allow the nail to breathe. Of all the toenails, those on the big toe and little toe are the most likely to develop a toenail fungus. This is because these toes   are constantly creating friction with the sides of shoes.

In a fungal infection, the toenail turns yellow or brown and becomes thick and overgrown and the pain kicks in. As the infection grows, the nail could either become weak and could eventually fall off or become very thick.
