Sulfur Acne Treatment
Sulfur has become a key ingredient in
many skin care products. Sulfur cream is very effective for
acne treatment. Most creams not only contains sulfur but also
vitamins and minerals for topical nourishment of your skin
to cure acne. Sulfur possesses antibacterial and anti-fungal
properties that's why it is used in many acne products to
treat acne causes by bacterial and fungal infection. Dermatologists
prescribe sulfur acne soaps. The soap kills bacteria and fungi
the skin. Using sulfur acne soap is really an effective acne
treatment specially for acne on face, chest, buttocks and
armpits. These are the body parts where frequent fungal and
bacterial infection is common. People having sensitive skin
may experience itching and burning sensation after using sulfur
soap, sulfur acne lotion etc.
Most people consider benzoyl peroxide
to be more effective than sulfur. Although it is a fact, but
sulfur acne products are more safer then products containing
benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide is not as effective for
treating fungal acne as sulfur. Benzoyl peroxide causes severe
skin dryness while sulfur based products rarely leaves the
skin severe dry.
Salicylic acid is also used instead of
sulfur in many skin care products. Salicylic acid and sulfur
has some resembling features. Side effects of sulfur based
skin care products are rare, but you must first talk your
doctor before using sulfur soaps, creams and lotions. Sodium
sulfacetamide is a common ingredient of sulfur based products.
It is an strong antibacterial agent that inhibits bacterial
growth in tiny skin pores or hair follicles.
Mild acne can be treated with sulfur
soaps and ointments without using prescription or other herbal
medicine. In case of severe acne or skin disorders like acne
rosacea, your doctor will prescribe other additional acne
medications along sulfur soaps and lotions to apply on the
skin. For treating and preventing facial acne, sulfur lotions
has been an effective way. Creams can also be used on acne
lesions but they may clog skin pores. Find an oil free lotions
that contains sulfur.
You can also use sulfur acne cleansers
and sulfur acne wash. Gentle cleansers and acne wash will
effectively reduce surface oil and inhibit bacterial growth.
Using cleansers and acne wash is easy and can be used twice
a day at morning and night. Most people do not prefer using
acne creams and lotions where possible and use acne cleansers
and they remove dead skin cells, sebum and kills bacteria.
Proper acne treatment should be initiated soon after you notice
acne. In case of delayed acne treatment, acne lesions may
leave deep scars that hard to fill and take longer to disappear.
If you are a pregnant or breastfeeding
women, you should be more cautious in using sulfur based acne
products. Women often use products without knowing its side
effects. Studies reveal that sulfur may be absorbed through
mother's skin and may cause birth defects. Use of sulfur acne
products during breastfeeding is also contradictory as its
side effects may transfer to infant. Consult you health care
professional before using sulfur based acne products.
