Causes of Acne

Acne is a skin abnormality and is a nuisance. There are many causes of Acne and there are two types of these causes.

Underlying Cause:

The underlying cause of acne is that during puberty body produces excessive amount of an oily substance called Sebum, which when combines with dead skin cells often blocks hair follicles which leads to acne. Excessive Sebum also provides an ideal environment for bacterial growth. Bacteria are the prime cause of pimples.

Superficial Causes:

  • A change in the hormone levels in females some days before their periods.
  • During pregnancy if hormone levels change acne will form. Also, at the time of starting or halting birth control pills females get acne frequently.
  • Some medicines like androgens, lithium, barbiturates are also the reason for acne.
  • Applying of the slippery products on skin is yet another reason for acne.
  • Scraping the skin either deliberately or unintentionally causes acne. If acne is scratched by whatever means, it will get worst.
  • Humid or polluted environment are also proved to be another reason.
